बोम्बल्या फकीर उर्फ रवी पवार ने सुरु केलेल्या Great Sahyadri Photo Challenge मधील माझे दुसरे आवर्तन. यात मी काढलेले सह्याद्रीचे, गडदुर्गांचे ५ फोटो आणि सोबत काही माहीती मराठी तसेच इंग्रजीतुन लिहिली आहे.
!! गोमुखी बांधणीचा रायगडाचा महादरवाजा !!
गोमुखी किंवा गायमुखी बांधणीचा दरवाजा हे काही दुर्गांचे वैशिष्ट आहे. पूर्वी (आताही काहीजण) कापडी पिशवी जपमाळेसाठी वापरतात. उलट्या इंग्रजी L अक्षराप्रमाणे दिसणारी ह्या पिशवीत हात घालुन आत जपमाळ पकडुन जप करतात. दरवाज्यातुन शत्रुला आत यायला असाच मार्ग असल्याने त्याला हे नाव पडले असावे.
या बांधणीचे फायदे असे:
- बाहेरुन दरवाजा दिसत नाही त्यामुळे आक्रमणाची नीट आखणी करणे कठीण!
- दरवाज्यासमोर चिंचोळा व वक्र मार्ग असल्याने दरवाज्यावर ओंडका, हत्ती यांनी मारा करणे कठीण!
- दारासमोर अरुंद जागा असल्याने कमी सैनीक एकावेळी येउ शकत आणि कमी शत्रुसैनीकांना एकावेळी बुरुजावरुच टीपणे सोपे!
- शत्रुसैनीकांना २-३ वेळा बुरुजावरुन मारायची संधी !
- दरवाजा तोडलाच तर शत्रुसैनीकांना एल्गार करुन मारणे सोपे कारण तरवार/ढाल फिरवायला कमी जागा!
अशी अफलातुन रचना रायगड, सिंधुदुर्ग इ. ठिकाणी पहायला मिळते. फोटो २०११ च्या भटकंतीतला..
!! Raigad’s Mahadarwaja “gomukhi” style !!
Gomukhi style is one of the best defensive build designs for the fort’s main gate. The gate path is built in such a way that the enemy has to enter via an “L” shape narrow way guarded by towers.
This strategically built design has many features:
- Since a gateway is small and narrow, no one can use long tools or animals to damage the door by force..
- Narrowness ensures a small number of troops enter at any given instance, which guarantees a very good hit rate for defending troops on the tower.
- Defending army on fort and towers awarded by 2-3 chances to take out attacking troops
- Even if attacking troops succeeds in damaging the door, defending army can clash down in large number marking their victory quickly since there is hardly any room for a hand-on-hand fight in the doorway. Picture from 2011 trek.
!! कलावंतीण !!
सह्याद्रीच्या रुपड्यात कलावंतीणचा फोटो नसेस तर नवल! पनवेलच्या पुढे असलेल्या प्रबळगडाचा सोबती हा सुळका अाणि त्याला सजवलाय कातळात कोरलेल्या पाय-यांनी.. हरीहरच्या पाय-यांप्रमाणे या पाय-या ही मनाला भुरळ घालतात. हा फोटो प्रबळवरुन काढलाय २०१० साली.

Kalavantin is one of the feather in cap of Sahydri’s beauty! This pinnacle is adjacent to Prabalgad. The real beauty is rock carved stairs on this pinnacle!! This picture was taken from Prabalgad in 2010.

!! सुरगडावरील हनुमानाची मुर्ती !!
आजही ब-याचश्या गडांवर आपल्याला हनुमानाची मुर्ती तटावर, बुरुजाजवळ, दरवाज्यापाशी दिसते. त्याकाळी रात्रभर जागता पहारा देउन गड राखला जायचा. काळोख्या रात्री जंगलात वसलेल्या किल्ल्यावर रात्री पहारा देताना भुताखेताची भिती वाटली नाही तर नवलच. हा हनुमानाराया ही भिती चेपायचा. हा एक फायदा. बाकी बलोपासनाचे प्रेरणास्थान आणि भक्तांचे श्रध्दास्थान तर हा मारुतीराया होताच!!
!! Hanuman Idol on Surgad Fort !!
Hanuman is the god of power. On many forts, its idols can be seen on forts nearby watchtowers or entrances or march routes around walls. Back in those days, 17th century, forts used to FEEL safe from bad/black powers. Since, at that time, the night must be hell scary in darker hills! Paying prayers and inspiration for strength were always there from these idols.
